Bikie boss’s ‘mission’ messages to accused drug trafficker exposed

A bikie was caught in secret messages saying Comanchero kingpin Mick Murray asked him to carry out “missions”, a court has heard.

Operation Ironside: The Aussies on the FBI's hit list

Comanchero bikie boss Mick Murray allegedly asked a clubmate accused of high-level drug trafficking to perform “missions”, according to secret messages exposed in court.

George Kamvissis — who sought Supreme Court bail on cocaine and ice charges — was allegedly intercepted on the encrypted AN0M app talking about Murray on April 14.

AN0M, created by law enforcement authorities, was at the root of a worldwide wave of arrests in June this year after police were able to harvest messages sent between gangland figures.

A police report tabled to the court stated Mr Kamvissis told Eren Kaya, a Comanchero serjeant-at-arms who was also charged in the AN0M Ironside sting, that “he still speaks with ‘M’, a commonly used term for Comanchero national president, Michael Murray, over the encrypted application, CIPHR”.

“Just caught up with him once though too parqnpid (sic),” Mr Kamvissis messaged Mr Kaya.

When Mr Kaya asked whether Murray still gets the accused to do “missions”, Mr Kamvissis replied: “Yea ... but I just say no”.

Mr Kamvissis, 30, relied on that evidence to seek bail, arguing his rejection of the missions showed he was finished with the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang and more interested in becoming a family man.

Police allege Mr Kamvissis, who was arrested in June, is a high-ranking Comanchero who was patched into the club in 2012, and that he is a past treasurer.

He went to the Supreme Court last month saying there were exceptional circumstances which warranted him being granted bail, including the possibility of long trial delays, that the case against him was not overwhelming and he had employment and support from family who were prepared to offer a $1.4m surety.

Mr Kamvissis, of Niddrie, is facing two counts of trafficking a large quantity of cocaine and methylamphetamine between January and June this year.

Police submitted that the father of two young children was an unacceptable flight risk and had an extensive criminal history, which included failing to answer bail and contravening other court orders.

Justice Christopher Beale ultimately refused the bail application.

He said the evidence indicated that Mr Kamvissis was still on good terms with the Comanchero and there was a “significant risk” they could help him get a false passport and flee.

It was the second attempt at bail by Mr Kamvissis.

A magistrate deemed him an unacceptable risk in refusing the earlier application.
