Bikie and Middle Eastern crime links in alleged fine fraud scam

A Greenvale woman has been arrested as part of an investigation into an alleged fine fraud scam with links to bikie gangs and Middle Eastern Organised Crime groups.

A Greenvale woman has been arrested as part of an investigation involving more than 600 false nominations of drivers for penalty notices.

Police seized a range of electronic devices, cash, a samurai sword and drugs after a warrant was executed at a residential address in Greenvale on June 24.

The 25-year-old woman was interviewed on July 4 and subsequently charged with 292 offences including misconduct in public office, perverting the course of justice, obtaining financial advantage by deception and unauthorised access to restricted data.

She was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Police allege the woman, who was previously working for a third party contractor, used her position to access information and then receive payment for false nominations of penalty notices.

A number of those who received the penalty notices were allegedly connected to organised crime entities including outlaw motorcycle gangs and Middle Eastern Organised Crime groups.

It is believed over 600 penalty notices were subject to false nominations.

Detectives also executed a warrant at a Westmeadows property on July 4 and seized a range of items including electronic devices, an air rifle, gel blaster firearm and nunchucks.

A 22-year-old Westmeadows woman was arrested, interviewed and later released pending further inquiries.

An 18-year-old Westmeadows man was arrested and interviewed in relation to the weapons. He was released pending further inquiries.

The seized electronic devices are being forensically analysed.

Fines Victoria and the Department of Justice and Community Safety were also involved in the investigation. The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission has been notified.
