Police have intervened to rescue two alleged kidnapping victims amid a major investigation into high-level crimes in Melbourne’s southeast.
Four men have been arrested over the series of kidnappings, non-fatal shootings, serious assaults and extortions which culminated in the intervention on Saturday.
Victoria Police said a 30-year-old Cranbourne East man and a 27-year-old Cranbourne man were being held and assaulted at separate houses.
The 30-year-old was being imprisoned at Cranbourne and the other victim was at a home in Dingley Village.
The special operations group arrested a 39-year-old Cranbourne man at the property in that suburb on Saturday afternoon.
A seriously injured Cranbourne man was taken to hospital.
Firearms accessories were found at that house.
A 26-year-old man was arrested at his Dingley Village home after a swoop by the SOG. Also arrested there was a Balaclava man, 26.
Detectives from the armed crime squad and Casey CIU yesterday raided a factory in Oakleigh as part of the investigation.
They seized a loaded handgun, a sawn-off shotgun, and a range of drugs.
In a third day of action today, armed crime squad investigators carried out a search warrant at a Taylors Lakes home.
A 38-year-old Taylors Lakes man was soon after arrested in Sydenham and is set to be interviewed by police.
Detectives from Casey Crime Investigation Unit also arrested a 34-year-old Clyde North man.
Three men arrested on Sunday have been charged with intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and false imprisonment.
All faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court earlier today and have been remanded in custody to appear again on November 1.
The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
