Arrest after fisherman dies in alleged assault on Frankston Pier

A man has been arrested and a fisherman has died after an alleged assault on Frankston Pier in Victoria’s southeast.

A fisherman has died after allegedly being assaulted by another man on Frankston Pier in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 36-year-old man was arrested by police on the nearby foreshore shortly after 6am.

Police were called to the site after reports of an assault off the Pier Promenade, where they found a man injured and unresponsive about halfway down the pier.

Attending officers found the injured 45-year-old Cranbourne North man, who died at the scene.

Another man was arrested by responding police on the foreshore nearby, shortly after the incident.

The man, of no fixed address, is assisting police with their inquiries.

A crime scene has been established and the site cordoned off.

At this stage police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
