Allan Meehan set to relocate to Melbourne as Comanchero national president

The boss of Sydney’s Comanchero chapter is tipped to take the bikie gang’s national presidency, in the absence of Mick Murray and Tarek Zahed.

The heir-apparent to national presidency of the Comanchero outlaw bikie gang is expected to leave Sydney and run the gang from Melbourne to fill the vacuum left by the recent arrest of Mick Murray, sources have told the Herald Sun.

Allan Meehan, the current Sydney chapter commander, is considered the most likely candidate to take over the gang’s national presidency following the arrest of Murray on a murder charge in late April, and the subsequent shooting of national sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed.

Meehan is yet to be appointed president, out of respect for the jailed Murray and the hospitalised Zahed, who miraculously survived an attempted gangland execution but whose injuries are likely to rule him out of any significant role with the gang.

A source close to Meehan said the rising bikie boss thinks the gang should be run from Melbourne while the courts determine Murray’s fate.

However, the renowned hardman is yet to commit to the move, and is also keen to avoid doing anything that could be perceived as a sign of weakness.

A move south would distance Meehan from the tit-for-tat killings engulfing Sydney's criminal underbelly, and would free allow him to avoid NSW police’s famed anti-bikie squad, Strike Force Raptor.

A bikie who has known Meehan since he “patched over” to the Comanchero from the Cronulla Rebels said he had earned a reputation as “pretty full on”, but level-headed enough to control some of the gang’s more volatile elements.

Meehan’s loyalty was rewarded in early 2021 with promotion to commander of the Comanchero’s small Canberra chapter after the murder of its former president Pitasoni Ulavalu.

His success in stabilising that chapter led to a further promotion, just six months later, to commander of the Sydney chapter.

Meehan has been by Melbourne-based Murray, and Sydney-based Zahed, who refused to leave Sydney in the weeks before his shooting despite being warned there was a price on his head.

Meehan went to Melbourne in January to take part in the gang’s January rally to Port Phillip prison, a show of support for members swept up in the federal police’s Operation Ironside sting.

Meehan declined to comment on gang business, but in a comment which will likely ruffle feathers within Victoria Police, said: “Melbourne is a lovely city, though”.

In a recent Instagram post, following the shooting of Zahed and the arrest of Murray, Meehan wrote: “bad times don’t last, but bad guys do!”

Victoria Police Echo Taskforce detective Inspector Graham Banks said the gang was struggling to maintain an effective leadership structure.

“Together with partner agencies, the Echo Taskforce is committed to targeting any attempt by the Comanchero’s to rebuild their ability to cause harm within the community,” he said.
