The luxury Rolls Royce that picked up alleged tobacco war ringleader Majid Alibadi has been revealed to be a rental from a suburban wedding hire company.

The Rolls Royce which greeted an alleged middle eastern organised crime figure upon his release from Melbourne Assessment Prison on Monday was a decade old rental car which can be hired for as little as $550.

Majid Alibadi, 25, was released on bail on Monday, and was picked up in the luxury car — accompanied by a Lamborghini — in an apparent attempt to show off the alleged gangster’s wealth and power.

But the Sunday Herald Sun can reveal the Rolls Royce is a rental car, owned by suburban wedding hire company, AMPM Hire.

The Lamborghini is owned by a Glenroy transport company run by a wealthy Lebanese family.

Public records show both cars are the subject of large car loans, with the hire company taking out a large loan to finance its purchase of the 2012 Rolls Royce in 2021.

A couple who recently rented the Rolls Royce “for a bit of a laugh” for their wedding said it could be had for as little as $550 on weekdays.

The hire company also rents out luxury sports cars and Mercedes Benz G-Wagon SUVs — a vehicle of choice for celebrities and gangsters — for similar prices, the couple said.

Alibadi, of Epping, faces more than a dozen charges, including arson and extortion, stemming from his alleged involvement in firebombings linked to the state’s illicit tobacco trade.

He allegedly has close ties to self-exiled gangster Kazem Hamad, who police believe has been running a major criminal syndicate while in hiding in the middle east.

Alabadi was described in court as Hamad’s “regional operations manager for the Hamad syndicate in Victoria”.

Hamad — who has previously been pictured socialising with notorious former bikie Toby Mitchell — has amassed a fortune estimated in the tens of millions.

Alibadi was represented in court by Dermot Dann, KC, one of Melbourne’s most respected and highest paid criminal barristers.

The alleged gangster told TV crews to “get f—ked” as he stepped into the rental car carrying a bundle of court documents.

Alibadi, who the court heard was a heavy methamphetamine user, is subject to strict bail conditions and returns to court in May.
