Teen boy, 18, shot in ‘targeted attack’ in Melbourne’s West

A gunshot has been captured on CCTV footage of a quiet suburban street in Melbourne’s west where a teenager was shot in what’s believed to have been a “targeted” attack.

A teenage boy has been shot in a “targeted attack” in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The 18-year-old was shot in the upper body while in a home in Truganina about 3.40pm on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The offender fled the scene and is yet to be found.

Police believe it was a targeted attack.

A gunshot can be heard on CCTV footage from a nearby house moments after several people can be seen running into a nearby courtyard.

A witness said the 18-year-old ran into the courtyard where he was bashed by two others with a stick before the shot was heard.

The 18-year-old then jumped a fence to escape from the two offenders, who then ran away.

Blood can be seen on the fence near where the incident happened.

The 18 year old’s mother said he suffered “leg, arm and shoulder injuries” and remains in hospital.

Neighbours told Sunrise they heard at least three gunshots in the afternoon.

Truganina resident Meena Sharma said the incident “terrified” her.

“We’ve been living here for a long time and never felt as though it was unsafe until this incident so close to the house,” she said.

“I hope police do some surveillance and patrols around the area to make it safer”.

Ms Sharma said she saw the victim “wave” and say he was okay while being stretchered into the ambulance.

Ms Sharma’s son Aryan Kaushik, 11, said he heard “a loud bang” and quickly went to alert his parents.

“It sounded like (a gunshot),” he said.

“I was scared and wondering about what was happening and what I should do”.

CCTV footage seen by the Herald Sun shows three alleged offenders chasing an 18 year old into an alley before a gunshot can be heard.

The three alleged offenders can then be seen running away from the scene soon after.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet clear and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
