Lockdown protester accused of petrol bomb threat

An anti-lockdown radical has allegedly threatened to throw petrol bombs at officers at a protest in Melbourne’s CBD.

An anti-lockdown radical has been accused of threatening to kill police in a significant escalation in violence against members of the force.

Police allege a 48-year-old man from The Basin rang a suburban police station and threatened to throw petrol bombs at officers at an upcoming protest in Melbourne’s CBD.

The violent alleged call was made on Monday.

Boronia police arrested the man at his home, charging him with making threats to kill, threats to inflict serious injury and threatening to assault a police officer.

He was bailed to appear at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on February 7, 2022.

The allegations follow a weekend of assaults on police officers at the latest anti-lockdown rally held in the CBD.

Thousands of protesters stormed the city, causing mass chaos in a show of rebellion against Melbourne’s strict stage 4 restrictions.
