THREE thugs who savagely bashed an innocent man so severely he required screws in his face have been jailed for a minimum of two years.

Fuelled by alcohol Kyle Johnson, 22, and Riley Rossiter, 20, and Cody Teuma, 23, left the now 29-year-old victim needing surgery and five days in hospital.

The Geelong County Court heard Friday the trio kicked and punched the man repeatedly after they cornered him in a toilet at The Sporting Globe in Geelong on May 20 last year.

The four-minute assault was so brutal the victim’s facial bones were completely separated from his skull.

Following the attack the traumatised victim is now dealing with decreased eye movement and double vision.

The court heard the trio calmly left the pub after the attack that left blood splattered on the floor and the walls at the scene.

The victim - who was concussed, and had both his eye sockets and cheekbones fractured during the assault - took five minutes to gather himself before leaving the toilet with blood streaming from his face.

Judge Gregory Lyon jailed attack leaders Rossiter of Norlane, and Johnson of Armstrong Creek for three years and eight months ordering they serve two years and three months before being eligible for parole.

“It was a vicious, sustained, cowardly and opportunistic attack on an unsuspecting fellow patron.

“You used the element of surprise and numbers in confinement in order to prevent his escape,” Judge Lyon said.

Judge Lyon sentenced Teuma - who had a lesser role in the sickening attack - to

three years and five months in jail with a two-year-one-month non-parole period.

He said Teuma made no attempt to stop repeated kicks and punches to the victim’s head, and punched him in the head as he attempted to flee.

When interviewed by police Judge Lyon said trio “made extensive denials and told lies” about their role in the ruthless beating.

Johnson even challenged investigators to prove he was responsible.

Lawyers for Teuma and Johnson asked for the pair not to be jailed.

Eventually as evidence mounted against the trio, including CCTV capturing them walking into the toilet, they all pleaded guilty to intentionally causing serious injury.

The court was told the trio were downing drinks for more than two hours at the venue before the frenzied attack.

Rossiter was so alcohol-affected he couldn’t remember parts of the assault, the court heard.
