His first book smashed into the bestseller lists — now former cop Gary Jubelin is penning a follow-up.
The ex-homicide detective revealed last night he is working on a new title, Badness, which will focus on the aspects of crime and criminals that are truly sinister.
He will look at cases and crooks where he and others in law enforcement have had to confront the worst of human darkness — and how they cope.
“In the cops we call it ‘Badness’ — the evil that we cannot understand. And yet we have to face it,” he says on the front of the book.
Jubelin’s debut title, I Catch Killers: The Life and Many Deaths of a Homicide Detective, told the story of his life in the NSW force, culminating in his involvement in the still-unsolved case of missing toddler William Tyrell, and the controversy attached to it.
The new book, which will be published in August 2022 by HarperCollins, was announced by Jubelin at an online live event launching the third season of his smash podcast, also called I Catch Killers.
“Gary’s unputdownable memoir was the #1 true crime book of 2020,” said HarperCollins Australia’s Publisher of Non-fiction Helen Littleton. “We are thrilled to be working with Gary and his co-writer Dan Box on a new project.”
At the event Jubelin answered reader questions and showcased a new video side project to the podcast, going back to crime scenes with his guests, who come from both sides of the law.
