Derek Chauvin, former cop charged with murder over death of African American man George Floyd, told to ‘get out of town’

The cop who killed African American man George Floyd has won another astonishing legal victory after being released from jail.

Should racist and controversial film and TV be removed from screens?

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged in the killing of George Floyd, can leave Minnesota due to “safety concerns,” a judge has ruled.

Chauvin, 44, is facing murder and manslaughter charges after video showed him kneeling on Floyd’s neck for about eight minutes during an arrest on May 25.

He was charged in late May and was in custody for months prior to his release from jail Wednesday on a $A1.4 million bond.

A Hennepin County judge said that the Department of Corrections provided evidence that unidentified “safety concerns” have arisen in Chauvin’s pre-trial, conditional release.

As a result, the judge ruled that he was modifying the conditions of release to allow the former officer to live either in Minnesota or a neighbouring state.

Under the previous bond conditions, Chauvin could not leave Minnesota.

The judge’s order also said that Chauvin will have “no permanent address” in the public court information system but must report his new address to his conditional release officer, who can share it with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Court Security Division, the prosecution and the defence.

The order says Chauvin should “establish residency somewhere in the state of Minnesota or a contiguous state” — Iowa, the Dakotas or Wisconsin — and provide the address to the court, prosecutors and law enforcement officials who will share the information on a “need to know basis” only. The court record will reflect that the “defendant has no permanent address,” Judge Cahill ruled.

A 19-year veteran of the Minneapolis police force before he was fired in May, Chauvin is facing second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in Floyd’s death. Three other officers on the scene — J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas K. Lane and Tou Thao — are charged with aiding and abetting.

Judge Cahill is weighing whether all four former officers will be tried jointly. A tentative trial date has been set for March.

Attorneys for all four officers have asked to move the trial out of Hennepin County, questioning whether it is possible to seat an impartial jury in Minneapolis and citing security concerns in a city that was rocked by days of civil unrest after Floyd’s death.

GEORGE FLOYD KILLER COP GETS OUT OF JAIL

The former Minneapolis cop charged with the murder of African American man George Floyd has been released from jail on $1 million bail.

Derek Chauvin, 44, who faces murder and manslaughter charges in Floyd’s May 25 death after kneeling on the back of his neck, walked out of the Oak Parks Heights prison after posting the hefty bond.

He had spent the past four months in jail.

Four former Minneapolis cops were charged over Floyd’s death, with Chauvin facing the most serious accusations. The other three have already left jail and are awaiting trial.

Viral video of Floyd’s fatal encounter with cops on Memorial Day sparked worldwide outrage and massive Black Lives Matter protests and rioting.

The footage shows the cops pin a handcuffed Floyd to the ground outside a convenience store at East 38th Street and Chicago Ave in the Minnesota city after he allegedly tried to use a counterfeit $20 bill.

Chauvin was filmed kneeling on George Floyd’s neck for almost eight minutes.

Floyd suffered cardiopulmonary arrest as he was restrained by the cop, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office.

He has been charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death.

The officer was held at the Hennepin and Ramsey county jails before he was transferred to the Oak Park Heights facility.

Chauvin was escorted by law enforcement officials last month out of the Hennepin County Family Justice Center and past a gate.

As Chauvin, clad in an orange jumpsuit, made his way into a corrections department black car, people could be heard yelling expletives at him.

“Coward!” “A**!” and “B**ch!” were some of the words launched at the former officer.

The shouts continued as the black car with Chauvin drove away, with a Henneppin County sheriff’s SUV leading the way and two others trailing behind, a video from KMSP shows.

Meanwhile, new body camera footage shows the chaos that unfolded on the night Breonna Taylor was killed by police — and how her boyfriend sobbed to officers that his girlfriend was dead.

“There’s somebody in there dead?” fired Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Brett Hankison barked at Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, as he knelt before police outside the emergency worker Taylor’s home, wailing, according to WDRB, which obtained the footage.

“Yeah, my girlfriend,” Walker sobbed in response.

“It was her house.”

The New York Post reports that the footage shows the aftermath of Taylor’s killing in the early hours of March 13 and the moment Walker explained to police they’d shot his girlfriend as he demanded to know what he’d done.

The video shows Walker barefoot outside the home, walking backwards with his hands over his head as officers threaten to sic a K9 on him if he doesn’t comply.

“Walk straight back or I’ll send this dog on you!” an officer can be heard shouting in the video. “Walk back to my voice!”

The video shows Walker telling police that Taylor shot at them because she was “scared,” a statement he later reversed, the outlet reported.
