Pamela Anderson has provided her star power during a visit to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in a maximum-security prison in London.
“To make our way through the prison to see Julian... was quite shocking... I feel sick,” Anderson said outside Belmarsh prison.
“He does not deserve to be in a super max prison, he has not committed a violent act. He is an innocent person.”
Anderson, a former Baywatch star and model who was at one point among the most famous women in the world, arrived at Belmarsh wearing a bespoke cape referencing “Cromwell” and “free speech”.
She was the first visitor Assange had received since he was sentenced to 50 weeks’ jail last week.
The jail term was related to breaching British bail laws when Assange hid out at the Ecuadorean embassy in London for seven years instead of surrendering to answer claims of sexual assault in Sweden.
Assange has always denied those claims and the case was later dropped.
Now the United States want to extradite Assange from Britain to answer a computer hacking charge over Chelsea Manning’s release of tens of thousands classified government documents through Wikileaks.
The US claims Assange helped Manning with a different user name so she could leak documents without being easily detected.
Anderson, who has formed an unusual friendship with Assange, said he had not been able to speak to his children.
“He’s a good man, he’s an incredible person, I love him,” she said.
“I can’t imagine what he’s been going through. I feel sick.”
The extradition case returns to court on May 30.
