Homicide detectives will today announce a $1 million reward in relation to the 2006 murder of Sebastiano Formica, who died after being stabbed during a fight outside a Shepparton bar.

The Victoria Police force

POLICE are hoping a $1 million reward can help solve the murder of a man who was stabbed in a brawl outside a Shepparton pub 12 years ago.

Mooroopna man Sebastiano “Sam” Formica was involved in a fight with a group of men out the front of the Fontana Bar on Wyndham St about 1am on January 22, 2006.

The 38-year-old father of two suffered stab wounds and was taken by ambulance to hospital, but could not be saved.

Detectives will today announce they are offering $1 million for new information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible.

Investigators said they were focusing on several persons of interest.

Six people have been interviewed by police, including two men who reported the incident straight after the fight.

Police said the brawl was between Mr Formica and his group of friends, and a separate group of men.

The fight spilled onto the street and continued to move down the road as people ran in different directions.

It’s understood Mr Formica stopped outside the bar and told witnesses and family members he had been stabbed.

After recently reviewing the investigation, detectives believe the reward will encourage those with crucial information to come forward.

Officer in charge of the Homicide Squad, Detective Inspector Tim Day, said: “We are appealing directly to those people to help us solve this murder.”

“For 12 years someone has known who has done this and it’s time that person tells us the truth,” he said.

“This investigation is not over and detectives will continue working until justice is given to the family of Sebastiano.”
