A CLOSE shave involving a Jetstar plane and a Singapore Airlines flight over the Northern Territory is being investigated.
The Singapore Airlines A330 had taken off from Brisbane on Thursday afternoon and was bound for Singapore when the Jetstar A320, heading from Darwin to Brisbane, came too close.
The Australian Transport Saftety Bureau has opened an investigation - the seventh loss of separation investigation it has launched in the past year.
The latest incident occurred about 75km east-southeast of Tindal, one of the NT’s RAAF bases.
Last year, the ATSB released a report that found the rate of loss of separation occurrences in Australia’s military airspace is relatively high.
It found more can be done to improve safety, listing several recommendations.
However, overall, Australia’s loss of separation occurrence rates are among the lowest in the world. In almost 90 per cent of loss of separation occurrences, there was no or a low risk of aircraft colliding.
