Best new hotels in Perth for every budget

It’s the country town that woke up one day to find it was a city. Whatever your budget, Perth should be on your must-see list in 2019.

Top 10 things to do in WA

As a resident once told me, Perth is a country town that woke up one day and found it was a city. Despite its status as Western Australia’s capital, don’t think for a moment the city has lost those friendly vibes, inherited from small-town roots.

“The appeal of Perth is near perfect weather, pristine beaches, an amazing restaurant and bar scene,” says Ryan Mossny from Two Feet and a Heartbeat tours. “(There’s) lots of things to do.”

Ryan says the highlights are the city, Fremantle and Scarborough.

“The city for obvious reasons,” he says. “Freo is spectacular with its convict-built buildings, bohemian lifestyle and the only licensed beach in the country. With the Scarborough redevelopment, you now have lots of cool places to eat and drink, night-time markets and the pool.”

Today, Perth puts its energy into building on the fertile cultural climate with its small bars, nearby wine country and easy access to quokkas on Rottnest Island. There is no better time to explore from the comfort of one of these new hotels.

BUDGET: HOSTEL G, NORTHBRIDGE

FROM $80 FOR A ‘GREAT ROOM

Think hostels are just for backpackers on a shoestring or desperados in their early 20s? Think again. Designed by architecture hard hitters, Woods Bagot, the Northbridge-based Hostel G couldn’t be further from that 32-person mixed dorm room you stayed in that one time on your Europe trip. Instead, the focus is on stylish accommodation and well-thought out communal spaces (including a games room, a screening room and a co-working space). While you can opt for a private twin room, (complete with en-suite, twin beds and bed lockers) if the budgets really tight you can choose to stay Hostel G’s Good Shared 8 (for eight people) from $22 PP or Glam Room (female only) from $31 a bed. A 15-minute drive from Perth Airport and four-minute drive from the CBD.
