Shot by Scott Winn and his friend Brendan Bytheway in the US, their video was filmed in a hidden alley in Salt Lake City.

The music video shows a group of stormtroopers dancing in a routine to their latest song, 'Beat Calls', also created by the duo, whose band is called Scott & Brendo.

The pair combined their passion for filmmaking and songwriting - and Star Wars of course - to create the video where they called on another friend, Jason Celaya, to do choreography for the stormtroopers who twerk while dancing hip hop style.

Winn told News Corp Australia that the stormtrooper costumes created an interesting obstacle when they found out how limiting they were on the dancers' movements.

"So the choreography was really built around the mobility in the whole getup," he said

He also said all of the music in his videos is original, and written by him and Brenden.

"This project was something I wanted to do for a while. It just made sense to me and my style of filmmaking, which often combines comedy and music," he said.

Stormtroopers are a popular part of the 'Star Wars' franchise.

"It was an opportunity to try something new and fresh on the music end, but also incorporate dance which is something I'm really passionate about."

Winn also relied on the skills of another friend and cinematographer Derek Pueblo, who helped bring the video piece to life with his "steadicam work".

Viewers who love the dance have praised the creators for their creative idea.

Gabi posted on TouTube: "This is so boss. What a great dance and it's even better knowing how much Stormtrooper armour limits movement."

Mark Dibelka posted: "They're pretty fly for white guys ..."

But others thought the Miley Cyrus style twerking was not cool.
