Shocking footage has emerged showing a young child playing dangerously close to the water at a notorious crocodile hotspot.

Disturbing footage shows children playing at Cahills Crossing, Northern Territory

Shocking footage has emerged showing a young child playing dangerously close to multiple crocodiles at a crossing in the Northern Territory.

The video, shared on Instagram by Cyaround Australia Tours, captured a group of adults and children near the water at the notorious hotspot.

While some kept a safe distance, a woman and a child could be seen jumping across rocks to cast a fishing line.

“What is this kid doing? There is fricken crocs everywhere,” the man is heard saying as the outlines of several crocodiles gathered meters away.

Cyaround Australia Tours took to social media to warn the public about the dangers of getting too close to crocodiles, who are known to drag unaware humans on the bank into the water.

“This family was literally having a picnic on the road with the kids constantly on the water’s edge and absolutely zero crocodile sense,” the company said in a statement, pointing out that there were “close to 10 visible, large crocs within 50 metres” of the family.

The tour company warned it was “only a matter of time” before a tragedy occurred.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again but it is only a matter of time until we have another fatality here and it will be witnessed by hundreds of people,”

The issue of crocodile awareness has gained attention following the tragic death of Dr David Hogbin, who was killed in a crocodile attack in North Queensland earlier this month.

David White, a crocodile guide from North Queensland, said the footage was “totally insane”.

“Honestly, people have totally lost their perspective of the wild,” he said.

“This is totally insane and unacceptable on all levels. National parks, child welfare, cops should all be out there fining these people.”

There have been calls to increase fines for feeding crocodiles following the death of the NSW doctor.

Lobbyists suggest fining people same amount for feeding dingoes in K’gari, which was reported at $11,500 in 2022.

However current fines for feeding crocodiles sit at $6,452.
