This is what Unplug24 is about and how you can get involved.
WHAT IS Unplug24?
Unplug24 is a national day of action where Australians will be encouraged to voluntarily disconnect from their social media for a day.
In turning off social media for 24 hours, the hope is to encourage change and make it safer for everyone to stay safe online.
WHY IS Unplug24 TAKING PLACE?
The date was chosen to mark the first anniversary of the death of Mac Holdsworth.
The 17-year-old boy from Melbourne, Victoria tragically took his own life after he was blackmailed by someone using fake social media accounts.
Mac’s father Wayne created Unplug24 in the hope that it could make a difference, shine a light on the damage that can be done on social media and save the lives of others.
WHEN IS Unplug24 HAPPENING?
The event is taking place online on October 24, 2024.
WHO IS TAKING PART?
The campaign, supported by News Corp Australia, is also backed by high profile figures including celebrities, sport stars and community leaders on social media.
