Scott Morrison grilled by Sooshi Mango comedians

Scott Morrison has turned to an unexpected place for his latest interview, speaking to popular comedy trio Sooshi Mango in a seven-minute rollercoaster ride for social media.

Sooshi Mango, featuring brothers Joe and Carlo Salanitri and Andrew Manfre, regularly parody “Aussie ethnic dads”, this time dressing up as the characters to interview the Prime Minister (or according to them, the President) of Australia.

“Ok today we speak to this man ... Mr Anthony Albanese has come on today,” the presenters began, before quickly correcting themselves.

“This man is the President of Australia, Mr Scotch Lamington.”

The interviewers immediately grilled the PM to “take off all the tax, please”, to which Mr Morrison replied “you should keep more of what you earn”.

The conversation quickly turned to the government’s handling of the Covid pandemic, which immediately prompted the PM to ask if the podcast hosts were vaccinated.

“Yeah I go on the vacation every year,” host Carlo Salanitri replied, before co-host Andrew Manfre interjected, believing the PM had meant “irrigation” instead.

“Yes Presidente, my backyard we put the irrigation, it’s beautiful. But every day I’ve still got to p*ss on my lemon tree. You can come and p*ss on my lemon tree please?”

“I’d love to,” Mr Morrison replied.

The trio probed the PM on Melbourne needing pandemic resources, pointing to the recent controversy over extra vaccine doses being sent to Sydney. Mr Morrison responded with a simple shake of the head as the trio exploded in laughter.

From there the Sooshi Mango trio tried to trap the PM with a question regarding the recently resigned NSW Premier, which they refer to as “Gladwrap Barbeque Chicken”.

The Prime Minister was unsurprisingly defensive of the former Premier Gladys Berejiklian, who is currently being investigated by ICAC.

“Nothing shifty about my good friend Gladys,” Mr Morrison said.

“She’s been fantastic up here in NSW, she’s done a great job getting us all out there and opening up. We hope she has a great future, I think there’s plenty more for Gladys to do.”

The trio then linkened the PM’s rise to office to Steven Bradbury’s miracle gold medal win at the 2002 Winter Olympics “for ice skating when everyone else fell over”.

“You think when people vote, you’ll still be President?!” Carlo Salanitri asked as the hosts erupted in laughter once more.

The PM shrugged off the insult, saying he couldn’t hear the question.

The interview quickly turned to US-Australia relations, namely the moment when President Joe Biden appeared to forget the PM’s name during last month’s AUKUS announcement.

Mr Morrison was instead referred to as “that fellow Down Under” by President Joe Biden.

“He’s old, his brain is a little f***ed up. But you think he forgets your name maybe because you’re a little bit sh*t?” host Andrew Manfre asked.

“No no no,” Morrison replied. “We all sometimes forget names.”

The interview then ends abruptly with the trio leaving their seats in a huff after being told they weren’t being paid for their encounter with Mr Morrison.

“Is that it?” the bemused PM asked to the now empty seats on the other side of the Zoom call.

Sooshi Mango later thanked fans for watching, saying the PM took their barrage of questions “on the chin”.

“Hope you all enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed roasting him,” they posted on Facebook. “Love him or hate him he took it on the chin pretty hard. Sooshi style!”

Mr Morrison has flown off for key climate talks with a commitment but without finalised modelling for his plan.

Mr Morrison will meet with world leaders first at the G20 leaders’ summit in Rome before travelling to Glasgow for the much anticipated United Nations COP26 climate summit.

It is the first in-person gathering of the leaders of the world’s biggest economies since the pandemic started.

In a statement prior to his departure, Mr Morrison said the pandemic and climate would be at the top of his agenda during his time overseas.

“These important international meetings come as the world has reached a critical point in our health response and economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, and our collective effort to address the challenges of climate change,” Mr Morrison said.

“COP26 will be crucial in the global effort to address the challenges of climate change.

“I look forward to supporting Prime Minister Johnson, as host of COP26, to achieve our Paris Agreement objectives and collaborate to collectively deliver net zero emissions by 2050.”
