A young man’s attempt to mock a Sydney Transport worker online has backfired.
He was recording himself on a train when the worker politely approached and asked to see his Opal card.
“Why did you choose your career bro?” the boy asked.
“Why did I chose my career?” the worker repeated surprised. “Because it pays the bills.”
“What? Did you fail like the police academy or something?” the boy teased.
The worker remained calm.
“No mate, I didn’t try the police, I don’t want to be a policeman,” he said.
The boy continued to press, asking why he didn’t want to be a policeman and why he chose his current job.
The worker explained his son was a policeman but it wasn’t for him, with the boy laughing and swearing in response.
He tried to continue the conversation by asking what the worker did before this job, but he was brushed off and again asked for his train ticket.
The boy, described as an eshay online, posted the video on a now-deleted TikTok account.
Likely the opposite reaction he had been hoping for, the boy was roasted by other users.
One said he had made “a mockery” of himself, while others called him out for attempting to shame the man’s job.
He defended himself in another video, saying he was proclaiming “the degeneracy of the job”. But again, fellow TikTok users told him it was wrong to judge people based on their job.
According to NSW Transport, authorised revenue protection officers and NSW Police officers are responsible for ensuring ticketing compliance and patrolling public transport.
They have the right to ask to see a passenger’s ticket at any time.
