PORTABLE gaming devices have come a long way since the era of playing Snake on your Nokia 3310.
With many smart devises more powerful than the PC’s used in the 1980s and 1990s, gamers are increasingly using smart phones and tablets for their fix.
According to the state of the industry report by Spil Games, a total of 48 million people played games on smart phones and tablets in 2014.
Seeing a gap in the market for a true console-quality controller to power all the devices used by gamers today, entertainment developer Mad Catzrecently unveiled a new product for that purpose.
Revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, the company showed off the L.Y.N.X 9 — a modular mobile game controller for PC and Android devices.
Mad Catz wrote on their website the controller had been “designed from the ground up to offer a revolutionary gaming experience for the modern gamer”.
“The L.Y.N.X 9 adapts to fit whatever device you’re using. Attach your Android smartphone to the flip mount for gaming on your morning commute or link up via Bluetooth to your PC rig at work.”
In addition to the obvious functions, the controller includes a trackpad module to mimic the actions of a mouse and also ships with a keyboard module allowing users to browse the net with ease.
The hybrid controller is yet to have an official release date, but gamers will be looking at the price tag of $299.
