FACEBOOK has been forced to apologise after banning a hit TV writer over a post in support of gay marriage.
Del Shores, one of the writers of Queer as Folk, on Wednesday posted a message celebrating equal marriage becoming law in Pennsylvania.
He wrote: “Today, a fan pointed out that Debbie can now marry Carl! Why? Because in one episode of QAF, when Carl asked Debbie to marry him, she said she would not until gay marriage was legal in Pennsylvania. How amazing! It’s an amazing time in history!”

Facebook removed the post and sent Shores a message informing him the message “doesn’t follow the Facebook Community Standards“.
Shores says he was also banned from using Facebook for 30 days after making the post.
Hours after the suspension received media attention in the US, Facebook restored Shores account.
Facebook spokesperson Meg Sinclair told Global News the move was “a mistake”, and that Facebook would reach out to Shores to apologise.
In an open letter to Facebook, Shores asked: “Please tell me what in my post that you removed … does not ‘follow Facebook Community Standards.’”
He suggested Facebook had bowed to pressure from religious bigots who reported his post.
