Comedian slams 'sexist' car park in Perth

A comedian has slammed what he says is a “sexist” car park in Perth that has wider spaces for female drivers.

Choccy Dan, who runs the Misfit Minds YouTube channel, shared a video to TikTok showing himself stretched across standard parking spaces and those meant for female drivers.

The ones designated for women were around “20 per cent wider”, he said.

“This is the most ridiculous thing that I’ve ever seen, female parking,” he said.

He described the car park in Pier Street, Perth, as “disgusting”, insisting that the City of Perth be “held accountable” for their actions.

His video had 38,000 views at the time of writing but not everyone was as outraged as him.

“It’s for like baby strollers and it’s closer to the entrance so it’s a little bit more safe for mummas and babbas,” one person wrote.

However others agreed that the car park was sexist.

“I totally agree with you that it is sexist, not in this day and age city of Perth,” another person wrote.

The City of Perth introduced female-only parking in 2016.

Men are not fined if they park in female-only spots but they are encouraged to follow the rules.

The prime spaces are fitted with brighter lights, emergency help buttons and are situated near exits.

The council said the spaces were designed to protect women.
