Australian light heavyweight Jimmy Crute has overcome his mental demons in spectacular fashion on Fight Island – scoring a brutal knockout of Lithuanian Modestas Bukauskas before leaping out of the cage to shake hands with UFC president Dana White.

Crute scored a crushing first round KO over Bukauskas in Abu Dhabi after delivering what appeared to be three flash knockouts within seconds against his rival – via two devastating right hands then a left hook.

The finish came just two minutes into the fight.

Earlier in the week, Crute had revealed to The Daily Telegraph how he was living in a van behind his Melbourne fight gym to prepare for what is easily the greatest win of his career.

The 24-year-old also opened on the mental demons he has been battling for all his professional career, saying he would always go into fights believing opponents were better.

Worse, Crute said the mental battle resulted in him severely overtraining and often leaving himself sick in fight camp.

Not anymore.

After working extensively with a High Performance coach on his mental game prior to this fight, Crute scored a huge win on Fight Island.

Immediately after winning, the Aussie sat momentarily with his dropped rival as a sign of respect before leaping over the Octagon wall to shake hands with UFC boss White.

The pair briefly exchanged words before Crute then returned to the cage.

During the call, former UFC champ Daniel Cormier heaped praise on the 24-year-old, describing him as “so gifted and talented”.

Earlier in the card, Central Coast lightweight Jamie Mullarkey suffered a contentious unanimous decision loss to Frenchman Fares Ziam, with many feeling the Aussie had done enough despite all three judges scoring it 29-28 for his rival.
