FRENCHMAN Thomas Voeckler is out of the Santos Tour Down Under after breaking his collarbone when he crashed on a training ride just hours after arriving in Adelaide.
The Europcar leader was taken to Adelaide sports clinic, Sportsmed, for X-rays on his right shoulder and will fly back to France tomorrow morning to seek treatment.
It is believed Voeckler collided with a stationary vehicle while training with his teammates near Glenelg.
Voeckler - who was set to ride the TDU for the first time - arrived in Adelaide this morning and told reporters he was looking forward to entertaining the crowd with his trademark attacking style and breakaways.
"When we go to train this morning a pedestrian crossed the road so a car braked very quickly and I didn't have time to brake and I bumped into the car," Voeckler said.
"I immediately understand that my collarbone is broken as it's the third time it's broken.
"When it's during a race you say to yourself it's your job there are risks, but when it's stupid like this morning I crashed into a car.
"It's not the car's fault but it's a stupid crash, a really stupid crash but that happens sometimes - this time it happens to me."
