WE'RE right in the midst of footy (and netball) trip season in Adelaide and there's a problem, writes Tom Biddington.
Very few people know how to order a beer.
South Australia has a 'unique' system of names for the sizes of these drinks, ranging from schooner, to pint, to imperial pint.
It's confusing and out of whack with the rest of the country. It shouldn't be so hard.

Bugger all this talk about lifting the drinking age I'm calling for a standardised set of beer sizes around Australia.

I was out having a beer with my former footy team and after getting the first round of pints, one bloke, who had never been to Adelaide, got up and ordered what he thought was a round of schooners.
He was visibly upset when he copped the small size, and (rightfully) took a fair bit of heat for it.
But why should a schooner in Adelaide be different to a schooner in NSW and Victoria? It's ridiculous.
LAINIE ANDERSON: 40 WAYS TO KNOW YOU'RE FROM RURAL SA
South Australia is the only one out of line with the rest of our great nation and needs to change.
There are three basic beer sizes on offer - 285ml, 425ml and 570ml.
The smallest is known as a middy in NSW and WA, a pot in Victoria and Queensland and a schooner in SA.
The middle one is called a schooner everywhere else except SA (a pint).
It's a similar story with the biggest an imperial pint in SA, but a pint according to the rest of Australia.

I don't know the history behind the names (imperial pint really?), but the time is right for SA to make the move.
So to get in line with the rest of the nation, here are the new sizes;
285ml pot/middy
425ml schooner
570ml pint.
Clear? Good. Do we need to call the government to confirm this?
No visitor to Adelaide should ever be left disappointed when it comes to ordering a beer. Particularly on footy trip.
