The 26-year-old pleaded for privacy for each of them during the break-up.

“After careful consideration and many cherished moments together, Stefanos and I have decided to amicably part ways,” she wrote.

Paula stated that they will remain close friends, adding: “We have shared a journey filled with love and learning, and it is as friends with immense mutual respect that we now choose to move forward on our own paths.

“As we transition into this new chapter of our lives, we continue to wish each other nothing but the best in all our endeavours.

“We kindly ask for privacy during this time, and we thank you for your understanding and respect.”

The former couple held a joint Instagram page prior to the announcement that had 87,000 followers, but it has now been deleted.

From supporting each other’s careers fervently online to posting regular updates about their relationship on social media,

Paula and Greek ace Tsitsipas, 25, quickly became one of tennis’ most-loved couples after they started dating early last year.

The star, who was born in New York but represents Spain, has suffered a number of injury setbacks over recent times that have left question marks over her career.

Tsitsipas did climb to number three in the world rankings and has finished runner-up at two major tournaments - losing both times to the legendary Novak Djokovic.

It is unclear when he and Paula actually started their romance.

However, they first went public last year and he did not hold back any feelings when discussing it with Eurosport.

He said: “I feel happy and content.

“I haven’t really felt that type of connection with anyone before.

“I don’t mean to sound cringe or anything because that’s the reality and that’s what I am faced with.”
