The GOAT of women’s tennis has dropped some huge news amid the glitz and glamour of the Met Gala, as a host of sporting stars stun on the red carpet.

Tennis legend Serena Williams has announced she is pregnant with her second child, alongside entrepreneur husband Alexis Ohanian.
The reveal came as the pair attended the 2023 Met Gala, which this year honours the late designer Karl Lagerfeld through its theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”.

The pair have a 5-year-old daughter, Olympia, with whom Williams was eight weeks pregnant when she won the 2017 Australian Open.
“We were so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala,” Williams wrote on Instagram as a caption to the photos.
Williams is arguably the greatest tennis player of all time, having won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most of any player in the Open Era.
She is the only player, male or female, to accomplish a Career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles.
Williams wore a fitted black Gucci dress with a plunging neckline adorned with strings of pearls from Tiffany & Co, alongside Ohanian in a sleek black tuxedo.
It is not Williams’ first rodeo at the glitzy fashion extravaganza, with the 41-year-old also posting to Instagram a collection of her historical looks over the years.
She first appeared at the Gala in 2004 with a purple silk gown, and has since launched her own fashion label, Serena.
Williams stepped away from competitive tennis last year, refusing to call it a retirement but instead an “evolution of Serena”, as she looked forward to finding time for “things that (she’s) been wanting to do for so many years.”
Her final match was a three-set loss to Australian Ajla Tomljanovic at last year’s US Open in the third round.
Williams spoke about her decorated tennis career after the US Open with late-night host Jimmy Fallon, saying she thought the term “retirement” needed to be “super earned”.
“I think retirement is something that is super earned and that people work really hard for,” she said at the time.
“I feel like I’m at an age where I definitely have a lot more to give and there’s a lot more that I want to do so I’m not going to be relaxing, there’s so much more for me.
“I feel like it’s more an evoliution of Serena.”
Williams is not the only sporting star on the red carpet in New York, with fellow tennis legend Roger Federer, Formula One personalities Daniel Ricciardo and Kelly Piquet, and basketball star Russell Westbrook all spotted.
Federer wore a Kim Jones-designed Fendi tuxedo alongside his wife Mirka in a feathered pink gown and a bow detail at the waist, while Ricciardo stepped out in a Thom Browne three-piece tuxedo with wide pinstripes and chunky patent-leather boots.
Ricciardo was caught in a humorous moment on the red carpet, photobombing actor Anne Hathaway as she posed for her red carpet photos, and sending social media into meltdown.
“Daniel Ricciardo is so real because this would so be me if I saw Anne Hathaway,” said one Twitter user.
