The tragic death of Kobe Bryant has been felt worldwide, and his presence has certainly been felt at the Australian Open.
Twenty-four hours after Nick Kyrgios warmed up in a Lakers jersey with Bryant on the back, world No.2 Novak Djokovic gave his own tribute to the fallen NBA superstar.
Djokovic arrived at Rod Laver Arena wearing a jacket with the initials KB embroided above the heart - alongside the two numbers Bryant wore in his career, 8 and 24.

But after demolishing Milos Raonic in straight sets, Djokovic was asked by American great John McEnroe to discuss his connection to the five-time NBA champion.
“He was one of the greatest athletes of all time. He inspired myself and many other people around the world,” Djokovic said.
“I had that fortune to have a personal relationship with him over the last 10 years.
“When I needed some advice and some support, he was there for me.”
He needed a moment to compose himself and move the conversation back to tennis as he broke down when his answer turned to Bryant’s daughter, the 13-year-old Gianna, who also died in the helicopter crash.
“He was my mentor, my friend,” Djokovic said.
