Jordan Thompson has entered uncharted territory after the 25-year-old’s stunning northern hemisphere form catapulted him into the top 50 for the first time.
Beaten 7-6 (9-7) 6-3 in the s-Hertogenbosch final by France’s Adrian Mannarino, Thompson will move to No 46 in the world rankings.
On a hot form streak after reaching the French Open’s third round, Thompson joins Alex de Minaur (No 26) and Nick Kyrigos (39) in the top 50.
Unlike his higher-ranked compatriots, who are playing the Fever-Tree Championship at Queen’s Club, Thompson will contest a Challenger event at Ilkley this week.
“(I am) feeling disappointed to lose in that final, but I am very happy to make my first final,” Thompson said.
“It was a great week for me.
“I really took advantage of playing well on the grass. It is disappointing to lose in the final, but a great week nonetheless.”
Thompson downed Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, de Minaur and Richard Gasquet in a break-out display of grasscourt excellence.
He held two set points at 6-4 in the first set tiebreak but could not capitalise.
