Alex de Minaur breezed through his opening match on Tuesday in an encouraging start to his Australian Open campaign.

The No. 8 seed headlined the evening session at Melbourne Park and delighted the home fans with an impressive 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 victory over dangerous Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp.

There were also victories for fellow seeded men Taylor Fritz, Holger Rune, Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev, but not before the latter took his frustrations out on a net camera.

On the women’s side, Madison Keys, Elena Rybakina and Emma Raducanu were among the big names to progress, while No. 25 seeded Aussie Alexei Popyrin and ninth seed Andrey Rublev crashed out in the night session.

Nick Kyrgios was the big casualty on Monday night, when the fiery Aussie fell in straight sets to Brit Jacob Fearnley.

However, there was plenty of good news everywhere else for the Aussie fans with Thanasi Kokkinakis and Jordan Thompson among those to progress.

Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Tommy Paul, Qinwen Zhang, Naomi Osaka and two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will be among the players in action on Wednesday.
