Australian Open 2024: Nick Kyrgios takes to his OnlyFans account to announce he won’t play at Melbourne Park

Australian tennis’ biggest drawcard, Nick Kyrgios has used his newly minted OnlyFans account to announce that he won’t play at Melbourne in a massive blow to the Australian Open.

The Australian Open has lost one of its biggest drawcards with Nick Kyrgios revealing a wrist injury will see him miss next month’s season-opening Grand Slam.

Given he hasn’t played since mid-year, the announcement – which he made on his OnlyFans platform which he joined a day earlier – wasn’t a great surprise.

Kyrgios, 28, will still be at Melbourne Park but in the commentary box.

“Hey guys, Nick Kyrgios here. [I have] obviously had a really tough year with injury, had that knee surgery and came back a little too soon, [which] set me back a little bit [and I have] had some wrist issues,” Kyrgios said.

“So, this is a very disappointing time for me, but I won’t be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open.

“Obviously, [this is] heartbreaking. I’ve had so many amazing memories there, and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right, and I need a little more time.

“I was so close to winning a grand slam [making last year’s Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic] – I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back, so please bear with me.

“Even though I won’t be there competing this year at the AO, I still will be around, commentating matches, being around – I’ve got some special things planned, so please be excited still. You know I’ll be there and hopefully see all the fans. I’ll see you there.”

Kyrgios missed last year’s Australian Open because of knee surgery, waiting until the eve of the tournament to announce his withdrawal.

He didn’t return to the court until mid-year but then suffered a torn wrist ligament in his right hand at Mallorca ahead of Wimbledon.

The loss of Kyrgios puts more pressure on Alex de Minaur who will be the main local hope at the Open which starts on Sunday January 14.
