Yankee Rose the early favourite to win next year’s Melbourne Cup

ONE punter will be hoping next year’s early Melbourne Cup favourite Yankee Rose can show her staying prowess in the Crown Oaks on Thursday and seal a $140,000 payday.

The David Vandyke-trained filly, who ran third to Winx and Hartnell in the Cox Plate last month, is a dominant favourite to win the Oaks over 2500m at Flemington.

Almandin did the right thing by the punter on Tuesday when he won the Melbourne Cup, which was the second leg of a three-leg multi, which began with Winx’s win in the Cox Plate.

The punter’s outlay of $2000 could turn into almost $140,000 if Yankee Rose can and confirm her early rating as the horse to beat in next year’s Melbourne Cup.

TAB installed the filly $13 favourite for the Cup ahead of Tuesday’s winner Almandin, Hartnell, Victoria Derby hero Prized Icon and Sacred Elixir.

Yankee Rose scored an impressive win in the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick, but would you back her to win next year’s Melbourne Cup.
