OUR experts give you an early shot at finding a winner as they look at the major races around the nation this weekend.

Last week ... The post-spring carnival hangover could be behind us after we found five winners and a splattering of close-up seconds with our best bets. As usual Brad Davidson led the way with Sedanzer ($2.50) getting the chocolates to continue his recent hot form. Glenn McFarlane found the bullseye with Mrs Gardenia ($2.25). Nick Quinn backed in Jungle Edge ($2.40) in the favourable wet conditions and Chris Vernuccio struck gold with Vinland ($3.60) also getting up at Sandown. Ben Scadden delivered for South Australian punters with Embecee Lil ($2.25) at Morphettville. Here’s hoping we can continue our form surge and build a decent Christmas pot. But we’ll have to do it without Davo, who has saluted with four of his past five selections, as he is out of action with a broken collarbone.

PAKENHAM

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 80872

SOHO RUBY (Race 2, No. 5)

Ruined her chances when she resumed at Ballarat when she was slowly away before running on well for third behind Brugal Reward. Winkers go on and she’s won second-up before. She can also boast a victory over the smart Pedrena in May.

TAB Fixed Odds: $5.50

ASCOT

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 516x1

BLACK HEART BART (Race 8, No. 1)

Classy galloper who was just pipped in the Railway Stakes last and is ideally suited at weight-for-age and stepping up to 1800m where he is a previous winner.

TAB Fixed Odds: $3

Value bet: WALL STREET WOLF (Pakenham Race 8, No. 8)

TAB Fixed Odds: $9

SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 37505

BLACK HEART BART (Race 8, No. 1)

Huge run with massive impost to fail narrowly in Railway Stakes. A win there would have been icing on cake as Kingston Town Classic has always been the main goal. Looks hard to beat.

TAB Fixed Odds: $3

Value bet: ANOTHER COLDIE (Pakenham Race 6, No. 8)

MORPHETTVILLE PARKS

BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser) Form: 3x341

GOGO GRACE (Race 8, No. 7)

Classy mare who put the writing on the wall with eye-catching effort when resumed with close-up second to Trupt a fortnight ago. Should have taken plenty of improvement from that outing and will take plenty of holding out.

TAB Fixed Odds: $4.60

Best value: COSMIC CHARM (Race 6, No. 8)

TAB Fixed Odds: $6.50

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser) Form: 022x2
