With the southerly wind likely to prevail, I’m looking for horses that will get cover down the straight on Saturday. Bivouac perfectly fits the bill from his draw (barrier three) in the middle of the field.

Won the Newmarket this track and distance in March and comes off a strong second in The Everest.

The Everest formline is the key and Bivouac’s run was the best of the four runners here from that race.

Joseph O’Brien-trained gelding caught the eye when second in the Bendigo Cup. Great chance to maintain his unbeaten second-up record.

ARCADIA QUEEN (Race 8, No. 9 — $3.20)
Classy mare who mowed down Russian Camelot two starts ago in the Caulfield Stakes and ran an eye-catching fifth in the Cox Plate when conditions didn’t suit. She looks well placed to win her third Group 1 race.

Good thing beaten in the Bendigo Cup and with even luck he looks a good thing to deliver another Cup week win for the Lloyd Williams and Joseph O’Brien combination.

Thought her run in the Cox Plate was enormous and she’ll improve back onto dry ground. Hard to see her getting beat.

An emerging stayer with three wins from his last four starts. He bolted in at Scone at his most recent outing, winning by nearly nine lengths over 2200m. Just needs some luck early to get across from his wide barrier but he looks the one to beat.

STOCKMAN (Race 5, No. 2 — $4.40)
He almost got it done over a shorter trip last time and he’s peaking now third-up over 1800m which is perfect for him.

SHAYNE O’CASS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 1117s
HUNNAM (Race 6, No. 7 — $15)
A Team Hawkes-trained colt makes his debut in the $1m Golden Gift off the back of a first-class trial at Randwick, where he looked to have a fair bit left to offer at the post.

DANCING GIDGET (Race 3, No. 2 — $4.20)
Has much superior form to her opponents and only has to produce something similar to her last few efforts to chalk up another win on Saturday.

FIELDS OF YULONG (Race 3, No. 8 — $3)
Has bumped into the in-form He Runs Away at his past two and been very competitive. Now strikes what looks a thinner race (with the possible exception of Populist, who is second up) and doesn’t take a notable weight penalty for it. Puts himself on the speed, has the inside draw and looks foolproof.
