Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner at the major races around the nation this weekend, with the unusually named Alligator Blood getting the nod from one of our Sydney tipsters.

Last week … two winners. While scratchings put paid to most of our Melbourne selections, The Advertiser’s Lincoln Moore gave punters a reason to cheer with his best bet Tiara Star (4.80) saluting, while TAB’s form guru Nick Quinn played it safe and added another winner to his tally with exciting filly Libertini ($1.50).

ROSEHILL GARDENS

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 40016

WOLFE (Race 6, No. 9 — $3.30)

Knocking together a good record and kicked off latest campaign with victory on Kensington track.

Next best: GIRLS ARE READY (Race 1, No. 3 — $5)

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph). Form: 1x303

SUBEDAR (Race 7, No. 5 — $3.50)

This horse had a bit to do last start against older horses but charged home like a smart runner. He’ll be hard to hold out again back in his own age group.

Value bet: WU GOK (Race 6, No. 10 — $15)

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: 73110

ALLIGATOR BLOOD (Race 7, No. 1 — $6.50)

Could rocket up the charts for the Golden Rose if he wins the Ming Dynasty. He is going to have be some horse to win with topweight and the outside draw but hey, nothing’s beaten him yet, and as David Vandyke pointed out, every time the bar is raised he clears it like Sergey Bubka.

Value bet: COME PLAY WITH ME (Race 6, No. 5 — $7)

DARREN PRENDERGAST (NewsRacing). Form: 42616

MADDI ROCKS (Race 7, No. 6 — $3.20)

Fastnet Rock filly has shown promise and did well chasing home Pandemic last start.

Value bet: CARZOFF (Race 6, No. 2 — $12)

Off & Racing — August 29

CAULFIELD

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 31x1s

DIAMOND EFFORT (Race 2, No. 16 — $3.30)

She resumed with an excellent run when second at Caulfield behind Pippie where she finished off strongly. On that occasion she drew out. This time she’s drawn barrier one and has Damien Oliver on.

Value bet: GUIZOT (Race 4, No. 8 — $7)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun). Form: 1621s

VEGA MAGIC (Race 6, No. 4 — $2.15)

Hard to go past the old stager who flies fresh and is a genuine star on his day

Value bet: STEEL PRINCE (Race 4, No. 3 — $4.20)

Age Of Chivalry wins the Blue Star Print Handicap on P.B. Lawrence Stakes Day.

SIMON MOY (NewsRacing). Form: 5121x

AGE OF CHIVALRY (Race 9, No. 18 — $2.90)

Second emergency but if gets a run looks a huge chance to win again. Plenty to fall back on if he misses out with My Pendant and Vega Magic.

Value bet: MISSILE MANTRA (Race 5, No. 9 — $5)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (NewsRacing). Form: 9621s

PIPPIE (Race 7, No. 13 — $2.80)

She led and won easily over 1100m at Caulfield last start. The step up to 1200m is a little query but she maps to control the speed again.

Value bet: SUPER TITUS (Race 4, No. 13 — $7.50)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 10111

VEGA MAGIC (Race 6, No. 4 — $2.15)

Vega Magic commences his spring campaign at Caulfield for the third consecutive year having registered convincing victories the previous two years. He is one of the best sprinters in the country who boasts eight wins when first up or second up and looks well placed to add to that.

Value bet: BENITOITE (Race 4, No. 14 — $6)

EAGLE FARM

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 23438

NIEDORP (Race 1, No. 1 — $3.30)

Barrier looks a challenge on paper, but banking on her having plenty on her rivals here. She measured up to stakes grade during the winter carnival and without having the favours dealt to her. Took a sit in the recent trial and ran home strongly to beat some handy rivals. Based on that, can be ridden a touch more conservatively here and prove too good.

Value bet: RED DOULTON (Race 8, No. 9 — $12)

MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS

MORPHETTVILLE

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 14141

ATEN (Race 5, No. 9 — $2.50)

Plenty to like about her latest effort when she speared to the lead and gave nothing else a chance. Jumps up in class and taking on the older horses but drawn to find the lead again and should prove hard to beat.

Value bet: NIPPERKIN (Race 4, No. 6 — $21)
