STAR South Australian mare Viddora has surged into calculations for the $13 million The Everest after a scorching victory in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley.

Just over an hour after Chautauqua’s career ended with a failed barrier trial, Viddora trounced high-class opposition – including $1.80 favourite Nature Strip – to underline her quality.

Trainer Lloyd Kennewell described the success in the $500,000 sprint as the greatest achievement in his career.

IT’S OVER: Chautauqua fails to jump and career is finished

“That’s my biggest moment in racing right there, right now,” Kennewell said as Darren Weir hinted Nature Strip might not progress to the October 13 The Everest.

“So proud of Joe, he’s moved his life across here to Melbourne as well. It’s a brilliant result for the owners and all the staff.

“Just flabbergasted in how easy it was. She’s been flying on the track, no secret really.

“I’ve got a great supporter base behind me. It’s been a great ride.

“Hopefully she can go on and get that slot in The Everest. She deserves it. She’s a great a multiple Group 1 winner.”

Bowditch accompanied Kennewell to Melbourne from Adelaide, intent on plucking Victoria’s spring riches.

Their ambitions were fulfilled as Viddora stalked a ferocious speed before steaming clear to beat Brave Smash and Spright.

Kennewell and Bowditch, who finished second in this race last year with Viddora, might now earn a crack at The Everest.

Nature Strip faded to seventh after leading into the straight, prompting Weir to cast doubt over his Everest participation.

“The horse comes first,” Weir said.

“It’s easy to be seduced by the (Everest) prizemoney but we’ll see how the horse pulls up.

“It might not be the best preparation.”
