A NASTY horse float accident on the Sunshine Coast near Corbould racetrack captured our attention for all the wrong reasons on Saturday.

Fortunately, it was confirmed on Sunday that the four occupants — Casual Choice, Frespanol and Whiskey Allround, along with stablemate Jetsonic — took only minor injuries.

The crash happened when the float lost control on the Bruce Highway and slid down an embankment 20km south of the Sunshine Coast racetrack.

At the time, Racing Queensland’s Matt Henderson left Corbould Park with several staff to attend the scene and found it hard to fathom how everyone survived.

“It’s amazing nobody was killed,” Henderson said. “It’s gone down an 8m drop and ended up on its side.”

Fortunately, we can turn our focus to finding winners again. Welcome to another edition of Monday Rewind.

Sunshine Coast

BLITZED

Sunshine Coast punters clearly anticipated the forward move and Blake Spriggs was able to dictate the speed, making it impossible for pursuers to gun filly Look To The Stars down.

BACK

Another Whiskey looked in total control throughout and coasted home again on the Sunshine Coast. Flying at the moment and can win again before taking on the tougher race.

Privlaka made nice ground from back in the field over unsuitable trip. Promising return on the Sunshine Coast.

I Am The Sculptor has now strung two big wins together and the 59kg made little impact on him. Looks comfortably up to Saturday grade after Gold Coast performance.

SACK

Lunar Rise was in the right spot on the Sunshine Coast after crossing early, but while the fellow leader kicked on doggedly, he gave in weakly.

Barrier was no help for Court Martial Miss, but still, more was expected of the mare who was so good fresh last time in. Jury out based on this effort on Sunshine Coast.

Mogador (Rosehill) has carried a boom from day one and looked like he might live up to it with some promise in the spring, but two goes in 2016 have been average.

THE QUOTE

“It’s amazing no one was killed.” Racing Queensland’s Matt Henderson after returning from the scene of Saturday’s float crash.

THE TALKING POINT

You get a true indication for how tight knit the racing industry is in times of adversity. Everyone at Caloundra went from festive to sombre at news of the float accident. Reports from Tony Gollan on Sunday that all four horses came through with only “minor injuries” was the news everyone was hoping for.

Rosehill

BLITZED

Bjorn Baker is the form trainer in Sydney right now, he’ll go anywhere to win a race as we saw that treble at faraway Orange last Tuesday. Baker won the 2YO race up at the Sunshine Coast with the exciting Winning Rupert and closer to home, unearthed a potential Queensland carnival classic filly in Rosehill winner Imposing Lass.

BLUNDERED

Reincarnate had string together three straight wins — all in easier company — in the lead-up to his Rosehill engagement on Saturday. Punters were red hot for him sending him out at even money but sadly and dpesite the run of the race, the son of Redoute’s Choice and Silver Slipper winner Plagiarize finished out of the placings.

HOT

High Midnight/Muy Bien and James Cummings. James Cummings was the most successful trainer in terms of individual wins over The Championships and his form has carried over post-carnival. He trained a winning double at Rosehill via the Gooree mare Muy Bien while later in the day, High Midnight lasted for a brave win, his second in as many starts at Rosehill this prep.

NOT

Fans of Gai Waterhouse went down with the ship with favourite Sort After beaten out of a place first-up despite holding favourite status. The horse was a big drifter in betting and ran accordingly.

Caulfield

BLITZED

Darren Weir continues to build a war chest of stayers. Raw Impulse looks a spring horse in the making after a dominant win over 1800m and is already $35 for the Melbourne Cup, Real Love tuned up for the Brisbane winter carnival with a stirring second, while her conqueror Doctor Care gives Weir a three-pronged attack for the coming Warrnambool Cup, joining Master Zephyr and Falago.

Danny O’Brien managed to shake off the dark cobalt cloud that has been hanging over his future by landing a city double. Merriest is a smart two-year-old filly that will improve when she turns three, while old stager The New Boy broke through for his first win at Caulfield in 14 starts.

BLUNDERED

Grey Street was the best bet in many punters’ books but looked to have every chance over 1000m and could only manage third. Might be a professional placegetter.

Mark Zahra is one of the state’s leading riders, but twice paid the penalty for coming via the Cape. His good things beaten were Ability and Under The Louvre (speaking of professional placegetters).
