HOT TIPS: WEEKEND BEST BETS
MOONEE VALLEY (Friday night)
MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: x0560
WELL SIGHTED
Race 1, No. 5
Ran on strongly for first-up fourth at Caulfield in a race where the favourites for this race Keen Array and Mawahibb finished second and third. With an extra 100m up his sleeve might be able to get home over the top of them.
TAB Fixed Odds: $10
DANNY RUSSELL (Herald Sun). Form: 23146
BUFFERING
Race 7, No. 1
Giving away 8.5kg to the star fillies, but if he gets his big rump in front at the Valley he’s near impossible to get past.
TAB Fixed Odds: $7.50
DARYL TIMMS (Herald Sun). Form: 1x868
SO DOES HE
Race 2, No. 11
Ready to salute again after winning at last start and second before that.
TAB Fixed Odds: $6
SIMON MOY (Superracing). Form: 53930
SO DOES HE
Race 2, No. 11
Courageous last start to win Up in grade but looks a handy prospect.
TAB Fixed Odds: $6

RANDWICK (Saturday)
STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph). Form: 5x036
BEYOND THANKFUL
Race 9, No. 4
Every time Chris Waller steps the bar up for this gelding, he measures up.winning a listed race at Wyong on September 4, then repeating the dose in the Group 3 Newcastle Cup on September 18. Hugh Bowman has stuck solid here and the $11 looks value.
TAB Fixed Odds: $6
SHAYNE O’CASS (The Sportsman). Form: 54073
TWIST TOPS
Race 2, No. 14
I was keen on Twist Tops but less so after the horror draw. She might ping the lids and lead, but it’s only the draw stopping me from saying she’s the clear pick from the fillies’ trials here 10 days ago.
TAB Fixed Odds: $5
DARREN PRENDERGAST (Superracing). Form: 39784
SILVERBALL
Race 7, No. 7
Chris Waller knows how to get his horses to peak for the big mile at Randwick and Silverball should be right in the mix. The grey drops back to 1600m after scoring a tough win in the Kingston Town Stakes. It’s the same path Waller used for last year’s Epsom winner He’s Your Man.
TAB Fixed Odds: $9.50
FLEMINGTON (Sunday)
ROD NICHOLSON (Herald Sun). Form: 12033
ULMANN
Race 9, No. 12
Big run at Caulfield last start and working super. Distance suits and draw to box seat at good each-way odds.
TAB Fixed Odds: $7
CHRIS VERNUCCIO (Superracing) Form: First starter
RISING ROMANCE
Race 7, No. 9
Two outstanding runs this campaign and was nosed out by Fawkner in the Makybe Diva. She should be close to a peak run and I’m prepared to overlook her shocking barrier (17). There looks to be a lack of speed in the Turnbull and she is capable of taking up a forward role from a wide barrier, as she did in last year’s Caulfield Cup when runner-up.
TAB Fixed Odds: $9
NICK QUINN (TAB) Form: 97803
HAPPY TRAILS
Race 7, No. 1
Won this race in 2013 and has won three Group 1 races at Flemington. His run behind Fawkner in the Makybe Diva indicates that he is ready to win and at double figure odds is worth an each-way ticket.
TAB Fixed Odds: $12
DOOMBEN (Saturday)
NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 53297
MISS COVER GIRL
Race 3, No. 3
Has a class edge in this field having won at stakes level in Sydney last campaign and she usually flies fresh. Some query over the 1050m, but that’s the reason you are getting the price and without electric speed, she’s drawn to be within striking distance at the right time.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.10
BRAD DAVIDSON (Gold Coast Bulletin). Form: 24806
WATLING
Race 6, No. 9
Struggling to work out how this horse is $31 in early markets. Yes, he has drawn the car park and faces the genuine possibility of being trapped wide without cover but his last three runs have been superb and if he jumped away with them last start he would have beaten Nozawa easily and that horse is favourite for this race. The gate is the big worry but Jim Byrne is a classy jockey and if he gets luck early he can fight out the finish.
TAB Fixed Odds: $26
MORPHETTVILLE (Saturday)
BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser). Form: 34721
BEAU RIVAGE
Race 7, No. 8
Three-year-old who showed sharp imrpovement when strong-finishing winner over highly rated American Star last time. Facing older horses here but could go on with it now he’s found his way to the winner’s circle.
TAB Fixed Odds: $6
LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 9x141
JEST FOR THE ROAD
Race 3, No. 4
Chased home Miss Gunpowder and Counter Sign when last in work and should strip fitter for a even effort at first run back from a break behind Viddora. Blinkers go on, there looks to be genuine speed in the small field and he looks big overs in early fixed price markets.
TAB Fixed Odds: $17
