The inquiry into trainer Jarrod McLean’s alleged possession of a jigger has been further delayed to allow his legal team and Racing Victoria to address “additional matters”.

The inquiry into trainer Jarrod McLean’s alleged possession of a jigger has been further delayed to allow his legal team and Racing Victoria to address “additional matters”.

McLean was due to return to the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Tuesday for a directions hearing, which had been scheduled since June.

Those plans changed late afternoon on Monday when the RAD Board advised the matter had “now been listed for administrative mention on September 23”.

The 20-day delay was agreed by consent of McLean’s legal team and RV.

RV would not specify what the “additional matters” are but McLean’s June appearance before the RAD Board was heard in-camera because some of the matters raised are also the subject of an ongoing police investigation.

McLean faces two charges – possession of an electrical apparatus and conduct prejudicial to racing.

McLean, Darren Weir and stablehand Tyson Kermond were arrested and released without charge following January 30 raids involving Federal and Victorian police and stewards.

Weir plead no contest to charges of jigger possession and is serving a four-year disqualification.

A Group 1-winning trainer, McLean has been allowed to continue training as he fights the charges.

Weir’s former assistant failed in his application to take over Weir’s former Warrnambool stables. Those stables are now occupied by Lindsey Smith, who won Saturday’s Group 1 Memsie Stakes with Scales Of Justice.

Police continue to follow lines of inquiry relating to January’s raids.

Key among them is potential animal cruelty and “engaging in conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome”.

Another is the “use of corrupt conduct information for betting purposes”.

The Herald Sun believes police have photographic and audio material related to the case.
