Three tracks, three wins, one jockey - Brad Stewart's unusual trifecta on the longest day

BRAD Stewart reckons few jockeys have been silly enough to ride at three different tracks on the same day.

BRAD Stewart reckons there is a good reason few jockeys - if any - have attempted to ride at three different tracks on the same day.

"Nobody has been silly enough to try it," said Stewart, who did just that on Saturday.

Not only did Stewart, 30, make hit-and-run trips to the Gold Coast, Doomben and then Toowoomba, he booted home a winner at each venue.

In a whirlwind weekend the Queensland hoop will never forget, Stewart was looking forward to a well-earned rest yesterday ... until The Daily Telegraph phoned.

"It's alright, I've got to ride later on at the Sunshine Coast," Stewart said early Sunday.

"The only reason I was able to do yesterday was because the times worked out alright.

"I knew the Gold Coast would be alright, as well as Doomben, but there wasn't a lot of time to get to Toowoomba. They were actually weighing out when I got there.

"The horse I was riding, Ongoing Venture, I won on last start, so I was keen to ride him again, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered."

Stewart left his Brisbane home with a mate at 11am and zipped down the Gateway Motorway for the Gold Coast. He lost his licence a while back, and hasn't bothered to worry about getting behind the wheel since.

Stewart had three rides, and got the cash on favourite Lady De Retz for Murwillumbah trainer Carolyn Halliday in a maiden.

Just after 3.15pm, Stewart was back on the Motorway bound for Doomben where Motorised awaited him in the last.

"I got there just in time, then a horse went off in the barriers, so the race started a bit later again," Stewart said.

"I had also won on that horse his previous start, and thought he was a really good chance."

The punters clearly didn't think Motorised could win because he started a juicy $26.

"I didn't have time for a shower and left Doomben about 5.15pm. It was a 90-minute drive to Toowoomba, and there was no way you could do it quicker than that," Stewart said.

... and the opening success, steering Lady De Retz first past the post at the Gold Coast.

"My mate was waiting for me in the car park to go straight away.

"We listened to the races, and at the bottom of a big mountain before you get into Toowoomba, the race before had just finished. There was still 10 or 15 minutes to go."

Stewart again saluted, then had time to put his feet up and wait for trainer Chris Jordan, who was giving him a ride back down the Cunningham Highway.

At $170 per ride, Stewart picked up $850, plus another 2252.50 for his five per cent of the winning prizemoney.

He was happy to stick to the one meeting yesterday, and pointed out: "I think there's only the one meeting up here today anyway."

It is common for jockeys to bounce between two tracks on the one afternoon. In Europe, jockeys use helicopters and can ride at a few tracks on the same day, especially during the extended daylight hours in the summer.

But few Australian jockeys - if any - have ever racked up trips to three different venues, let alone win at all of them.
