The races and runners to target in Round One of SuperCoach Racing

One race looks like a goldmine this, another has all the hallmarks of a minefield. We identify the races you want to target to get a fast start out of the SuperCoach Racing barriers.

How To Play SuperCoach Racing

The SuperCoach salary cap means we can’t spend like Godolphin founder Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and so it behooves a savvy player to target those races which offer the best return for dollars spent.

And while all Group 1 races offer the same points, one of the headline races this round is far better value than the other. We rate the races to target below.

The headline Group 1 races this week are the Golden Rose Stakes (Rosehill) and the Underwood Stakes (Caulfield) with four supporting Group 2 races, three Group 3 races and two listed races.

The Golden Rose is a race you really must target this round. It is run under Set Weights conditions and those favoured in the betting have a very strong history of performing well.

Over the last 30 years, 16 of those sent out as favourite for the race have finished in the top three with 10 wins. With the big Group 1 points on offer, a strong history of lead-up form being rewarded and the big bonus that three-year-old horses get in cheap to start the SuperCoach season due to their lower ratings and limited race history, this is a race worth aiming at least two of your Round One stable at.

With the current top five in betting for the race Bivouac ($300K), Exceedance ($225K), Yes Yes Yes ($250K), Kubrick ($150K) and cheapie buy of the round Yao Dash ($50K) all available at or under $300K I will be using at least two of my roster slots on this race.

The other Group 1 race of the round the Underwood is a WFA classic run over 1800 metres. Favourites also a good record a in this race, though not quite as outstanding as the Golden Rose, with 13 finishing in the top three and six wins over the past 30 years.

As mentioned above, the favoured horses in this race are not cheap with the top five in betting being Homesman ($400K), Johannes Vermeer ($400K), Gatting ($400K), Hartnell ($475K) and Humidor ($475K).

Outside of the Group 1 races the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude and Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (both Caulfield) appeal due to their being restricted to the cheaper three-year-olds. More on these races later once fields have been finalised.

Elsewhere, in the Group 2 Golden Pendant (Rosehill) Mizzy ($250K) and Dyslexic ($200K) are both well favoured in the betting and are the value picks compared to the likes of Enticing Star ($350K) and Invincibella ($350K)

The favourite in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (Rosehill) is dual Group 3 winner Gem Song ($275K) and don’t discount the chances of cheapie Desert Lord ($200K).

The Group 3 Gloaming Stakes and Colin Stephens Quality (both at Rosehill) offer less value for money in this round.
