LAST night’s Hall of Fame dinner was one with a difference with its first horse on the red carpet — Subzero.

Subzero and his great mate Graeme Salisbury were at the National Gallery in Canberra for “Subbie’’ to receive the chairman’s award for special services to racing.

Hall of Fame chairman Bob Charley said he gave the award every so often to participants not covered in any of the categories. “Subzero has been given the honour for his services to racing after his racing career,” Charley said.

The four racehorses inducted were Lonhro, Dulcify, Surround and Rain Lover.

Shane Dye and the late Jim Munro, a two-time Melbourne Cup winner associated with many great horses, including Phar Lap, were the jockeys inducted.

South Australian trainer Leon Macdonald entered the Hall of Fame, as did Frank Dalton, champion Sydney trainer of the 1940s and 1950s.

Two associates were included: Victorian racecaller Eric Welch and the NSW-based Tait family, who bred Tie The Knot and Baguette.

Chad ready to talk to Hayes

CHAD Schofield said yesterday he would catch up with David Hayes soon to discuss whether he will return to the stable.

“He’s been busy with the sales so I haven’t spoken to him, but I’m sure it will happen soon,” Schofield said on Radio Sport National.

“I’ll talk to David and see what he thinks.

“He’s always got good advice for me and I’m sure we’ll come to some agreement.”

Achieve more with blinkers

ROGER James hopes the addition of blinkers can help top mare Silent Achiever win a Group 1 in Sydney.

Silent Achiever made it two from two this campaign when she won the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie. She has worn blinkers in both starts.

“I think if blinkers can find a length or two, it might make us a bit more competitive in the autumn,” James said.
