Not even a Flemington Saturday running double would tempt Adelaide trainer Andrew Gluyas from toasting the triumphs with a drop of tequila.

But Gluyas, who trains in partnership with Hall of Fame trainer Leon Macdonald, is very keen to see how siblings Another Award and Tequila Time compete at Flemington.

“Hopefully it’s tequila time … although I won’t be having it,” Gluyas said from his Morphettville base.

“When you have a bad experience, you want to steer clear of it.”

Progressive four-year-old mare Another Award is a $5.50 third favourite with TAB for the Des Gleeson Handicap (1400m), behind hot-pot Lighthouse ($2.40) and Bermadez ($4.40).

Older half-brother Tequila Time, also out of Encosta De Lago mare El Milagro, is second favourite in the Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m).

It is the first time Another Award and Tequila Time, who raced at Flemington once before in 2019, will compete on the same card after a combined 48 career starts and more than $722,000 prizemoney banked.

“This is a fluke,” Gluyas said.

“A lot of people in Tequila Time followed up into her, there’s some excited people.”

Jamie Kah is booked to ride the Macdonald-Gluyas pair.

While six-year-old Tequila Time is a known commodity, having won eight of 32 starts to nudge $500,000 prizemoney, the best of Another Award could still be in front of the mare.

“It’s a bit of a test (Flemington) but she’s in-form, we’re excited to see how she goes,” Gluyas said.

“We’d like to try it and that might even see her out and we reset for things down the track, maybe even our carnival.

“She’s pleased us with her ability and while she’s very fit we thought we’d put our toe in the water.”

Another Award was beaten 2½ lengths in the Listed City of Marion Stakes last start after back-to-back wins.

“Considering the form we’d like to take her to 1400m and see if the Shamus Award (pedigree) kicks in,” Gluyas said.

Tequila Time has thrived since resuming from a long break, also winning back-to-back races.

“He deserves (another) chance at a stakes race now,” Gluyas said.

“In the past we’ve gone to six furlongs (1100m) with him but we thought we’d hold him at the five (1000m) and give him his chance, his form warrants it and the timing is good.”
