Sale will be the scene of Victoria’s first Good Friday race meeting in April next year.

Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria decided to schedule a Good Friday meeting for the first time to launch the Easter long weekend of racing.

RV and CRV plan to rotate the Good Friday meeting to various tracks around the state to help promote tourism in various areas.

The move needs a change to the Racing Act to go through the Victorian parliament.

Racing is currently banned in Victoria on Good Friday and Christmas Day under the Racing Act 1958.

The Andrews Government introduced a bill to change the Racing Act to allow Good Friday racing into parliament last month.

Both houses are likely to debate the bill in the coming weeks.

RV has guaranteed racing would not start before 1pm, in line with Anzac Day.

Plans are underway for the feature to support the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
