RANDWICK
Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 6m
RACE 1: TAB HIGHWAY PLATE (1500m)
Overview: Highlights has been going great guns in easier races of late and he just needs a bit of luck from the wide draw to feature in the TAB Highway this week. King’s Trust was galloped on last start and he will appreciate a dry track here. Lord Desinamaux runs on like normal, while Racketeering should be hitting the line late.
Betting Advice: Highlights from King’s Trust.
RACE 2: FUJITSU GENERAL CANONBURY STAKES (1100m)
Overview: Interesting race. Zambezi River ran second in the Breeders’ Plate on debut last prep and while the time was soft out of that race, the winner, Sejardan has won the Golden Gift since. Great Barrier Reef has been trialling well and there’s a bit of a boom on this Chris Waller-trained colt. He does seem very short in betting. Robusto has trialled well leading into his return, while Sweet Ride won at this track and distance on debut albeit in slow time.
Betting Advice: Leaning to Zambezi River.
RACE 3: WIDDEN STAKES (1100m)
Overview: I love the fight Ebhaar showed when challenged in the Merson Cooper on debut and she sat outside the lead on that day too. She has trialled well leading in and looks hard to beat. Ojai is another one who has looked good at the trials and she looks a professional two-year-old that should make her own luck close to the speed. Drisana rocketed to the line at her only start and should be doing the same here, while Mumbai Jewel has been looking good at the trials and also has claims.
Betting Advice: Ebhaar to win.
RACE 4: CHANDON HANDICAP (1500m)
Overview: I’m assuming Narvaez will most likely run in the last race on the card so I’m treating him as a likely scratching here (he is an each-way hope here if he runs). And We Danced hasn’t put a win on the board in Australia yet but she is running well and she just has to be held up a little longer in the straight (she only has a small sprint). Kanazawa was good off a slow tempo last start and the extra trip looks okay. Carlisle Bay and Deel With Me have claims at odds.
Betting Advice: And We Danced slightly on top.
RACE 5: MIDWAY HANDICAP (1300m)
Overview: Open race as these Midways normally are. I think Akihiro runs well though and he should be very strong late here. He produced some decent figures last prep and trialled well. Military Expert is likeable with the strong Group form lines last time in and he just needs luck from the wide draw. Oakfield Arrow got the job done second up and will have admirers again, while Ashim can run well fresh.
Betting Advice: Akihiro the value.
RACE 6: SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (2000m)
Overview: This looks a race in two between Casino Kid and Crystal Pegasus. Casino Kid showed a brilliant turn of speed to win over 1800m last start and the 2000m looks to suit now. Crystal Pegasus was outstanding over 1500m fresh and the 2000m is much more to his liking here. I’m confident one of those two win. Just Business and So Wicked look best of the rest.
Betting Advice: Two horse race between Casino Kid and Crystal Pegasus.
RACE 7: XXXX EXPRESSWAY STAKES (1200m)
Overview: We get to see the return of Anamoe in the Expressway and he is a very classy colt. He ran second in the Golden Rose, won the Caulfield Guineas and then ran second in the Cox Plate before a break. He has trialled well but will 1200m be too short? That’s the query. Standout is a great fresh horse and he gets his preferred dry ground, while Overpass had no luck in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington last spring and can run well at odds here. Tiger Of Malay and Forbidden Love look next best.
Betting Advice: Leaning to Standout at the better odds.
RACE 8: NED WHISKY HANDICAP (1500m)
Overview: Yiyi put the writing on the wall with a cracking run fresh (best late splits of the day) and he should get a sweet run behind the speed here. Canasta is racing very well and he deserves another victory. He should lead for a long way again. Holyfield and Kingsheir next best.
Betting Advice: Yiyi to win.
RACE 9: ROSEHILL BOWLING CLUB HANDICAP (1400m)
Overview: Rule Of Law is three from three as a gelding and there’s no reason he can’t win again here. He has to see out the 1200m now but he did beat Exoboom over this trip when winning his maiden earlier in his career. The Bopper just got too far back last start but he should be outside the lead here and may be too good late. Tamerlane and the ever consistent Ranges next best.
Betting Advice: Rule Of Law and The Bopper look the two.
RACE 10: PRECISE FIRE HANDICAP (1400m)
Overview: Narvaez was caught three wide without cover fresh in Melbourne and I thought he boxed on well. He can roll to the front here and prove hard to catch. Juventus gets a nice weight drop and he finds a winnable race after chasing home a subsequent winner last start. Other chances to Above And Beyond and Van Giz.
Betting Advice: Narvaez to win.
