PAKENHAM (night)
BEST BET
NONCONFORMIST (R4 No.12, $1.90)
Her two runs suggests she has plenty of ability. On debut she worked home well for third over 1200m at Pakenham. Then at her last start she finished third to the smart filly Mrs Beckham at Caulfield over 1440m. The daughter of Rebel Raider should be suited by the step up to 1600m.
NEXT BEST
FRONDEUR (R6 No.12, $3)
Couldn’t have been more impressive winning her debut at Moe in August. She was slow to begin but rounded up the field before going to to win by more than three lengths on a soft track. Has jumped out well at Caulfield recently.
IRISH BUTTERFLY (R8 No.3, $2.60)
Resuming from a seven-week break after disappointing sixth-placed finish at Sandown Hillside when favourite. His previous four starts showed he is a galloper with potential. Trainer Henry Dwyer has added a cross-over nose band and tongue tie.
WORTH NOTING
FORTYFIVE PARKLANE (R2 No.5, $3.80)
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr son of Written Tycoon resumes as a gelding. He had two starts in winter for two thirds and recently won a three-horse jumpout at Caulfield.
THE JOCKEY
BEN ALLEN
The former leading apprentice is making the most of his limited opportunities. He’s won eight races from his last 29 rides since December 31. He rides HONOURABLE SPIRIT (R2 No.7, $34) and IRISH BUTTERFLY (R8 No.3, $2.60), both for Henry Dwyer.
ARARAT
BEST BET
WESTERN WINGO (R2 No.7)
Son of Mawingo in the Anthony Freedman stable who showed talent at his debut last July when he was slowly away, sat last and ran on strongly to finish fourth over 1200m behind Western Sun at Pakenham Synthetic. Should relish 1300m first-up.
