IT’S not normal practice for a three-year-old filly to back up seven days after a hard run but trainer James Cummings has no qualms doing so with the talented Way Too Good at Scone on Saturday.
The filly was well supported to finish third behind Daysee Doom at Rosehill last Saturday after sitting on the speed the whole trip.
Cummings believes Way Too Good has improved immensely with that run under her belt and is well placed in Saturday’s 1100m Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes.

BEAT THE BOOKIE: VALUE BETS
TRACK
Rail in the true position with a bit of moisture around — most horses should get their chance with pace the main factor in the outcome of each race.
Race 1: Kia Ora Stud Hcp (2200m)
CHRIS Waller has a two-pronged attack on the opener — Murphy’s Delight and Loving Home — Rory Hutchings thinks he’s on the right horse.
“Murphy’s Delight was good last start when he got the cash and if he turns up in that type of form he should be winning this,” Hutchings, who claims 1.5kg off the 61kg topweight, said.
“He won’t have to do anything in the run from the inside gate and providing we can get out at the right time, he should be right in the finish.”
SPEED: Moderate with Halfway To Heaven rolls to the front with Loving Home coming across and So Hot in behind. Loving Home gets to dictate here – dangerous.
RUN-ONS: Meiner Freccia and Duca Valentinois through the middle are the big plays while Murphy’s Delight can ounce on them with an ounce of luck.
Race 2: Isuzu Ute Hcp (1100m)
KOBY Jennings booted home a double at Canterbury on Wednesday and says he is looking forward to teaming up with his old boss Barbara Joseph.
“I’m on Wonderbolt for the team and they know how to get one ready for a first-up assault,” he said.
“The horse goes well freshn — he’s won or ran second three times from four first-up runs.”
SPEED: Rock solid with Sweet Serendipity applying the pressure from out deep and Brooklyn Storm looking to hold them out from an inside gate.
RUN-ONS: Everything says MOGADOR. Wide gate is perfect – he’ll travel deep with cover and finish off over the top of them.
Race 3: Pryde’s Easifeed Woodlands Stks (1100m)
KERRIN McEvoy reckons we can disregard Mooshakissa’s two runs back from a let-up and suggests we focus on what the filly did when last in work.
The daughter of Duporth ran first-up in the Kindergarten Stakes before Tye Angland reported he didn’t ride her out after being concerned with her action last start at Rosehill.
“Last campaign she was beaten half a length by Souchez at Rosehill and then three and a half (lengths) by Capitalist in the Magic Millions,” McEvoy said.
“If she was to run up to that form you would think she will take some stopping in a race like this.”
SPEED: Genuine but not silly. Irish Sea looks for the front and expect Too Fast For Love to be handier.
RUN-ONS: Manaya has missed the kick in both trials — can’t afford to do that here but she looks well above average. Keen on James McDonald to weave some magic aboard Nonpareil in the long run home.
Race 4: Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stks (1100m)
JAMES Cummings has no doubt Way Too Good has taken some benefit from her run last week at Rosehill when finishing third behind Daysee Doom.
“That was her first run for over a month and she sat outside the lead and was right there until the last 150m,” he said.
“With that under her belt she should stick on a bit more but from barrier 15 we are going to need some at luck somewhere during the run.”
SPEED: Genuine but hard to pin down a certain leader. Agean Sea kicks up, Regatta Rebel out wide maybe on the back-up Way Too Good will take a trail and be stronger late?
RUN-ONS: Love where Roeinda and Sangiovese get to in the run. Watch for Alart and Fancy Knikkers out wide.
Race 5: Inglis 3YO Guineas (1400m)
DARK Steel might be $21 and there’s a slight query on his ability to run out a strong 1400m but Tye Angland thinks the colt will get every chance from barrier one.
“I’d like to see the track dry up for him because his best form is on top of the ground,” Angland said.
“His two 1400m runs have been at stakes level — one he drew wide and pushed forward and the other was on a soft track.”
SPEED: Tough to say looks moderate but could tap into the genuine zone if the likes of Dark Steel, Girl Sunday and Professor Marx want to kick up. If they don’t, Spill The Beans is the one they have to run down.
RUN-ONS: Supply And Demand might settle closer here and perhaps shouldn’t be in this category. He’s the horse that Spill The Beans has to hold out.
Race 6: Yarraman Park Luskin Star Stks (1300m)
FEDERAL meets Music Magnate 4.5kg better at weights for their recent clash where the latter prevailed by a half a length.
“It’s a big turnaround in the weights for only a narrow loss,” Federal’s jockey James McDonald said.
“He’s trialled well since and his form has been so consistent — he will take some holding out over the final stages.”
SPEED: Genuine but not silly. Ninth Legion, River Lad and Decision Time push forward with Music Magnate getting a perfect trail behind them. He does need to be careful that he doesn’t end up third the fence behind River Lad.
RUN-ONS: It’s a case of whether Clearly Innocent and Federal can run down Music Magnate.
Race 7: Godolphin Dark Jewel Classic (1400m)
QUEEN Of Kariba has been kept on the fresh side “because that’s how she races best” according to trainer John Sargent.
“She’s a tricky horse because she gets back on runs on but last start she was beaten less than two lengths by Ammirata and had to make her run in the worst part of the track,” Sargent said.
The daughter of Lonhro has failed at 1400m previously but Sargent thinks the freshen-up might change that.
“Each time she has raced over the 1400m it’s been on a traditional two or three week lead in,” he said.
“She’s got good residual fitness here but has had that little freshen-up — definitely an each-way chance.”
SPEED: Plenty despite no designated leader — we could see some artificial speed with everyone wanting to be handy. Ammirata and Danish Twist look the best of the on-pacers.
RUN-ONS: Artistry and Onemorezeta down the outside and maybe Queen OF Kariba can sneak a place through the middle.
Race 8: Arrowfield Ortensia Stks (1100m)
KURO produced a strong run when coming off a let-up to run third at Hawkesbury behind Furnaces.
“He’s improved off the run and I think the 4.5kg drop in weight will help him sprint quicker when the whips are cracking,” trainer Joe Pride said.
SPEED: Genuine with Furnaces and That’s A Good Idea driving to hold a spot while Esgrimidor and Inz’N’Out come over from out wide.
RUN-ONS: Brook Road and Kaepernick both possess monster finishes.
