THE Sydney autumn carnival is winding down but there are still Group 1’s to be won and there’s plenty of racing action across the country.

SuperRacing’s Chris Vernuccio analyses the best three races to watch on Saturday.

ALL AGED STAKES

Randwick Race 7

1400m, WFA Group 1, 3.45pm

TOP PICK: History bodes well for PRESS STATEMENT with the past three three-year-olds to win the race all starting favourite — All Too Hard (2013), Atlantic Jewel (2012) and Paratroopers (2006). The star colt should have won the Randwick Guineas and was beaten three lengths by Winx in his first attempt at WFA, and that form is hard to ignore.

DANGERS: This is MALAGUERRA’s biggest test but he’s rising up the grades and has plenty of talent. Third-up and 1400m a great combination. BLACK HEART BART finished ahead of Chautauqua in the Newmarket and was too good for his rivals in the Victoria Handicap and has to be respected.

QUESTION MARK: ENGLISH is flying but she was well beaten at her only attempt at 1400m a year ago. She’s a superior filly this preparation but suspect 1000m-1200m are her best distances. KERMADEC may be the best rated horse in the race but there are too many negative — he ran poorly in the Doncaster after blood was found in his mouth post-race, he was also treated for a back issue, and the lack of pace doesn’t suit.

HALL MARK STAKES

Randwick Race 6

1200m, SW+P Group 3, 3.25pm

TOP PICK: SPEAK FONDLY put in a shocker first-up last month but she appears to be back on track after her slashing trial win, and the speed map is also in her favour.

DANGERS: There are chances aplenty, starting with MUSIC MUSGATE who looks primed for a big run after two strong trials and he has form around Group 1 performers Peeping and Fell Swoop. ARTLEE didn’t live up to his spruik in the spring but he’s better than that, TARGET IN SIGHT carried more weight when beaten by Malaguerra and FAST N ROCKING’s last five starts have been at Group 1 level.

QUESTION MARK: Last start winner CHARLIE BOY has never strung back-to-back wins and he’s not a horse you can rely on.

WA DERBY

Ascot Race 7

2400m, 3YO set weights Group 2, 6.25pm (EST)

TOP PICK: WHO DAT SINGA was a dominant winner last start over 2200m when he was eased up near the finishing post and had two lengths to spare. Step up to 2400m should be no problem and he has the gate speed to overcome the wide draw.

Who Dat Singa can enhance his staying credentials in the WA Derby.

DANGERS: KIA ORA KOUTOU, who was third in the Victorian Derby in the spring, has been improving each start and is ready for the 2400m. FIRST IMPRESSIONS looks the best of the fillies after her brilliant win in the WS Oaks, and stablemate ARCADIA DREAM is also a threat.

QUESTION MARK: HEART STARTER had his three-win streak broken by Who Dat Singa and could have passed his distance limit.
