NICK Hall won his first two Group 1s this year in two states, and is looking to add a third with Spirit Of Boom.

NICK Hall is aiming to tick off another Group 1 to end 2013 on a high.

Hall enjoyed his only two Group 1 career successes this year, with victory in Queensland's Stradbroke Handicap on Linton and the Caulfield Cup on Fawkner.

Now he's in Perth to ride Spirit Of Boom in today's Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes.

Hall got one up on his famous father, Greg, when he won the Caulfield Cup, one of the rare major races his father did not win.

But Greg Hall has bragging rights over his son in Western Australia - he won the 1983 Railway Stakes on Getting Closer.

Hall already has enjoyed Group 2 success with the Tony Gollan-trained six-year-old stallion, having won the Caulfield Sprint (1100m) on him during the recent carnival.

And he believes the consistent sprinter is primed for this 1200m feature.

Spirit Of Boon was beaten little more than a length in Brisbane's Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in June, and returned in September to get within half a length of the winner in Sydney's Group 2 The Shorts.

He was a model of consistency at the Melbourne carnival. He was beaten three-quarters of a length by Platelet in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington, won the Caulfield Sprint and then finished second to Fontelina in the Group 2 Linlighgow Stakes (12300m) at Flemington.

The son of Sequalo has started 44 times for seven wins and 16 placings and $1,337,300 in prizemoney.
